Planetarium
In 2018, exactly 50 years after the start of work on the construction of the Astronomical Observatory of Genoa , we undertook a new and demanding challenge: to donate a public Planetarium classroom to our city.
After countless evenings and weekends spent carrying out this ambitious project together, we finally inaugurated the structure in May 2022: with its 8 meters in diameter and 6 meters in height, the Planetarium can accommodate up to 50 people and is right next to our historic Observatory.
The large projection dome placed inside has a diameter of 6 meters.
A modern digital projector and a more traditional "mechano-optical" projector allow visitors to travel through time and space, in an immersive educational experience that allows everyone to become passionate about the mysteries of our immense Universe.
The Planetarium was completed thanks also to an important contribution from the Municipality of Genoa and Aster, which granted us the area necessary for the installation of the new structure which stands next to the Astronomical Observatory and the VI Medio Ponente Municipality which created, through the concessionary company SIRCE , the fundamental concrete base. The projection of astronomical scientific contributions for visitors is ensured thanks to the commitment of Dr. Marco Venturini, CEO of Phase Motion, an international company based in Genoa Sestri Ponente, and with a great passion for astronomical sciences, who made himself available to purchase for our association a complete latest generation digital projection system for planetarium domes.
